The artist I chose was Marcel Duchamp. I based the design on his self portrait because I think it really explains Marcel Duchamp's idea the beauty of everyday outlines with their contours being the main focus of the piece.
The kings are siloutes of Duchamp and the queens are outlines of Duchamp's female alterego Rrose Sélavy.
The aces are based on Duchamp's famous Fountain.
The Jacks are based on various pieces by Duchamp/Rrose Sélavy which are all windows/doors:
